Sania Mirza has always been great in whatever she does. The mother-to-be has just entered third trimester and is due in October. She still manages to tweak her diet and workout routines to keep up with her nutritional needs to play a Tennis match with her sister, Anam Mirza. Other than that, she has kept herself active by regularly practicing yoga and walking. Sania is currently in her hometown, Hyderabad and is enjoying chilling out on the last days of her pregnancy. She and husband, Shoaib Malik announced the pregnancy in April, 2018 on their respective social media platforms. After being happily married for more than 8 years, Sania and Shoaib are all set to welcome their first child Baby Mirza Malik.
In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Sania Mirza shared her mommy diary and talked about her workout, diet, and some pregnancy tips. The 31-year-old tennis icon believes, “While every woman’s body reacts differently to pregnancy, it’s unfair to think that you are handicapped for nine months. I’d recommend using this time to prepare your body for the changes that are going to happen in the following months. Begin by staying active and live a normal life; that’s what I did.” Sharing the best part about her pregnancy, she remarked, “Now, I’m just giving my body the rest it needs and waking up whenever I feel like — usually between 9 am and 10 am — so that I feel refreshed. Since sleep at night is hard to come by, especially in the third trimester, there is no point in stressing yourself out in the morning.” She further added, “Now, I’m just giving my body the rest it needs and waking up whenever I feel like — usually between 9 am and 10 am — so that I feel refreshed. Since sleep at night is hard to come by, especially in the third trimester, there is no point in stressing yourself out in the morning.”
About practicing yoga, Sania shared, “Yoga isn’t just for the body but for the mind as well — it keeps you physically and mentally fit which is crucial at this stage. The asanas you practice, especially in your second and third trimester, teach you to breathe correctly during labor.” She further added, “Before becoming pregnant, I used to push my body to perform even when I experienced pain but I don’t any more. It took a while to train my mind that I won’t be able to do even five per cent of what I could before and that it’s okay. With pregnancy, priorities change and you have to adapt to the fact that your body is altering while creating something within and that it requires energy. In my case, I had to relax and refrain from routine activities — everybody’s ‘routine’ is different.”
When asked about her cravings, she said “The body craves for things it lacks. So when it asks for something too often, maybe you should oblige. I’ve been off processed sugar for the last 3-4 years so thankfully, I don’t miss sugar as much. But when I long for it, I have it in small quantities.”
She also mentioned that she a lot of greens in her diet and also an apple, a day. When hungry, Sania snacks on energy bars made from jaggery and dry fruits, and also manages to drink one glass of milk daily. She stated, “Calcium is a big must in the third trimester. What you eat reaches the child, so eat what you feel like but make sure it is healthy. I also have a lot of yogurt because it is great for acidity and because I don’t like milk. Plain yogurt is non-fattening, has no sugar and full of calcium. Regardless of whether you are pregnant or not, my dietitian recommends flax seed for everyone and I get my fix through roasted flax seed crackers with an Indian spice tadka.”
We hope for a healthy and easy pregnancy for Sania Mirza!
