‘Belly Fat’ or ‘Abdominal Obesity’ is an excess fat which develops around the stomach organs. Primary reasons for this are genetics, malnourishment, or lack of adequate physical exercise. Balanced Diet- One should stay away from intake of high level of carbs, sugar-sweetened beverages and fad diets. Foods which are rich in fibres and proteins should be consumed more. Also, moderation in the quantity of food is important. Nutritionists help in preparing a balanced diet food for an individual which can help in increasing their immunity level.

Exercise- ‘Exercise’ in any form of Yoga, Aerobics, Cardio, Pilates should be followed as a regime for improvement in the body. As per WHO, adults should do at least 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous aerobic workout per week.

Lifestyle modification – Adequate sleep is important because sleep level has a significant impact on the overall Metabolism in the body. It also reduces stress hormones which are the major cause of belly fat. Because stress leads to overeating which later increases the level of glucose in the body.

Medications and Treatments – PCOS, metabolic syndrome, Diabetes and other problems which increases belly fat are caused due to changes in insulin and hormonal level, thus it should be treated with extreme care and under doctor’s guidance. Several medical treatments are available like ‘birth control pills’ to regularise periods, medicines called ‘Metformin’ to prevent Diabetes, ‘Statins’ to control high cholesterol, successful weight loss treatment which includes ‘(GLP-1) drug also called Glucagon-like peptide drug’, ‘Amlodipine’ drug to control blood pressure.

Even after following a proper diet, having adequate sleep and taking stress management therapies, if one is not able to see desirable changes in the body; then one should visit the hormone specialist – an endocrinologist and should take their guidance.
